Such A Glorious Day! (BY PHILIPPA)

Yes, it was a little bit cold but look at the sunshine we had! Saturday was such a beautiful winter's day, albeit without any snow, but cold and bright. We certainly had to keep moving in order to warm ourselves up, which was not a bad thing given the challenges we face in preparation for the race in Ottawa. Two of us went twice around the cemetery in order to get our distance done and by that time, the air was feeling somewhat warmer and the wind had died down. The sunlight pouring down on us felt so good on our faces and the casual comfort of talking one on one was therapeutic. Spring will eventually arrive with its warmer and brighter days so I'm feeling happy.

And speaking of happiness, I saw a remarkable movie yesterday, called Perfect Days (now playing at the TIFF cinema). It's the story of a man who cleans toilets in Tokyo. It is NOT an action picture, be warned, but instead, a quiet and charming character driven film in which a man who has suffered some kind of family estrangement (we never find what), has somehow been able to make peace with his life and find happiness. It's absolutely remarkable in its simplicity and profundity and is staying with me.

And if you want to find some joy, take a look at a short documentary called The Last Repair Shop. Nominated for an Academy Award, it can be found on Youtube and it will fill your heart with children and music. We need these reminders that the world is indeed a wonderful place. The link is below.
