On Saturday, after our walk, we were all invited to a birthday party in the back garden of one of our long standing members. The garden has been her project as long as I've known her. It slopes and as the path meanders away, it seems to disappear around a tree, giving the illusion of never ending greenery.
The patio had elegantly dressed tables ready for us to eat lunch. We filled our plates from the sumptuous buffet and found seats among the walkers, the friends, neighbours and family members of the woman whose day it was. A Kenny Rogers fan had made the playlist and we all sang along with "Lucille." It was a wonderful celebration.
I am frequently aware of aging (too frequently for TPW members, I think.) But events like this remind me of the richness of sharing many years in the company of friends.
