Women's Blues Review

On Saturday. I recovered part of my pre-covid life - I attended the sold out Women's Blues Revue at the renovated Massey Hall, along with some TPW friends and others.  It has been 5 years since I attended what used to be one of my yearly autumn highlight events.

I enjoyed every one of the six featured artists, some of whom were new to me. Every song struck a chord of excitement or pulled on memories, some sentimental, some funny, some good times.  The artists carried the legacy of women who were important in my youth - Janis Joplin, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Etta James.  Some of their songs were new, but the tradition of blues music reaching inside and expressing for us what we find hard to express on our own doesn't change.

I'll be there next year!  As "post-covid" gradually emerges (is there such a thing?  am I tempting fate?) I wonder what else I will revive!
