There is a very interesting documentary currently showing on Netflix called: Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones. In it the narrator travels around the world investigating the world's identified Blue Zones, places where people live extraordinarily long and healthy lives. For each location, he summarizes the elements which seem to be leading to the longevity of its residents. For the most part, these elements are all ones we already know about such as nutrition (whole foods!) and exercise (walking!), but there were many others, one of which really caught my attention: "Find your Tribe"
Finding your tribe means finding the people you belong with ("finding my people"is another way of saying it). The connection, support and understanding to be found when you spend time with people who care about you is so valuable to one's mental and therefore, as it turns out, to one's physical health as well. There is evidence that it is an important part of living a long and happy life.
And so let us celebrate our TPW tribe and our lives spent together. Cheers!
And one more reason to celebrate: for those of you who haven't heard the good news from Maui, the banyan tree at the centre of Lahaina is showing signs of life. Arborists have poured gallons of water and nutrients into its root system and new green shoots and leaves have appeared. It seems to have survived the fire.
