Happy Canada Day! (FROM BARB)

After our walk on Saturday, 20 of us celebrated Canada Day, #156, in our courtyard with lots of very Canadian treats! The magic in our little celebration was in the camaraderie, the fun and the overriding sense of gratitude for our group, in sharing food and laughter.

On CBC there was a segment of "what people in Canada hoped for" - very touching seeing so  many people celebrating Canada day in Ottawa - after not being able to with the pandemic.  Responses from these everyday Canadians including "listening to each other",  "the importance of diversity", "respecting Mother Earth", "learning from the past" and the reflections of new Canadians - especially those who were taking their citizenship oath on Canada Day.

And on the theme of Canada Day, and with apologies to Louise Penny's July newsletter:

"I believe the world needs more Canada."
- Bono
"Every Canadian has a complicated relationship with the United States, whereas Americans think of Canada as the place where the weather comes from."
- Margaret Atwood

But here's to all of us, our Canada and our gratitude.
