The Majesty of Mother Nature (by BARB)

Yes it was quite the storm - made even more spectacular with the thunder and lightning on Friday night. Who knew there was such a word as "Thundersnow"? Four of us showed up at the cemetery on Saturday morning. Although in true TPW form, we need to note the cross training done by many who were shovelling the (apparently) 30 cm of snow that had fallen. But let me describe our subsequent adventure on Saturday morning. One drove, one walked, and two took the subway. However the gates to the cemetery were closed as they were busy plowing the roads. After waiting about 15 minutes, we were able to drive into the cemetery from Mt Pleasant road. I must have walked in the cemetery more than 100 times in the last 15 years but I have never toured in a car. And how different it looked. We all saw and discovered new sights and treasures, and marvelled at the way the snow had fallen, in many cases highlighting the tombstones and creating spectacular vistas. The word "pretty" was uttered many times.

However, as we could not find a place to park, our brave driver, PD decided to park in the lot beside Shoppers. That's when the real fun began as the car got stuck in the un-plowed lot, and with the kindness of helpful strangers, the car was pushed out of the snow and we were able to park. At that point, we mustered all our self-discipline (as in walked past coffee shops!) and headed up to the cemetery for our actual walk.

There was something almost spiritual about the wonder of this snowfall and picture perfect scenes enjoyed by our group and many others walking in the cemetery. And as the sun came out, the trees were magical, covered in pristine snow, creating their own form of art, sculpture and beauty. Serenity indeed

And how fortunate we are to have our beloved cemetery as a special place. And yes we did have our well deserved coffee afterwards!
