Saturday was the Chinese Lunar New Year and is
the beginning of the Year of The Rooster.
It seems fitting since we have one crowing in the White House.
According to one astrologer, the Year
of the Rooster will
be a powerful one, with no middle of the road when it comes to moving forward.
This year, impressions will count. Look your best and be clear on your
intentions. Stick to practical and well-proven paths to ensure success, rather
than risky ventures.
I’d suggest that
this means we should walk our intended distance, on the side of the road,
facing traffic, and wearing our best reflective gear.
I’m pleased to report that no-one walking
in the TPW had porridge for breakfast on Sat. morning. Porridge should not be eaten on the first day
of the lunar new year. Porridge is seen
as “poor people’s food,” (although
Scots would contest that.) I’m also
pleased that everyone wore their colourful walking gear as this, too, invites
luck.
Our local Chinese community is celebrating
at Dragon City Mall on Spadina. Immigration
has brought so many benefits, not least of which is wonderful diversity of flavours
in our city which we can enjoy during Winterlicious for the next 2 weeks.
