This weekend was the culmination of summer
training for many of our members. A
group of about 2 dozen people (including a few good men) met in Montreal to
participate in the Montreal Rock ‘n Roll half marathon. Sherry had found us a great hotel in Old
Montreal. Friday night, Martha and Diane
led 7 of us on an expedition to find the perfect dining experience, complete
with sangria. Saturday, Sue’s search for
the perfect garlic braid took us to Atwater Market where many of us purchased
savouries for the pre-dinner cocktail party later on Saturday afternoon. Sue bought a wonderful wild blueberry pie for
the party which we all cared for on the Metro (whoever had the pie got a seat.)

After the market, we headed to the race
expo to pick up our bibs and bags (and what seems to be the new team jacket.) Then back to the hotel where we split
up. Some folks went for a great lunch in
the old city and some went to see the Chihuly exhibit at Musee des Beaux Arts –
a mindblowing glass display (apparently
coming to Toronto this winter.) We all
met for dinner at Holder, another stellar meal, again thanks to Sherry.
Oh yes, the race! We left the hotel at 7:15 am on Sunday,
waited for a long time in our corral in the rain and finally got off almost an
hour after race start. Everyone was
pleased with their race, all who started, finished. But I’ll leave it to Jo Ann, who walked her
first half marathon, to tell that story.

From Jo Ann -
What a thrill to cross the finish line of my first half
marathon! The thrill banished all thoughts of the pouring rain and bone
chilling rains on the Jacques Cartier Bridge.
Appreciation for the support and encouragement I received from the
generous women of TPW warms all my memories of my first demi-marathon in Montreal.
Five minutes into the
walk I heard a band belt out the words of one of Queen’s hit songs...”we will,
we will rock you”. The words and music quickened my pace and lifted my soggy
spirits. Women of TPW, you rock me. Thank you.
