Cool weather did not deter us!

Cooler than normal temps did not deter our group from walking this weekend!  Eleven of us gathered in High Park to walk Saturday. Parking, trails and the restaurant were back to normal after last weekend's cherry blossom activity. Welcome to Patricia who joined us for the first time after hearing about our group from her sister Danielle. The rest of the group continued their walk out of the park and out to Humber Bridge.  Most enjoyed breakfast before leaving the park.

Sunday was the Sporting Life 10K, a parade of over 20,000 walkers and runners down Yonge Street. Shirley commented that the view of the pack ahead of us at Mt Pleasant cemetery reminded her of the colours in a gum-ball machine. She was right it was very colourful. There were are few runners dressed like Waldo, and Popeye and Olive Oil. Toronto Maple Leafs were represented in participant, spectators and volunteers.

It was a great fun to do the race with so many people around. There was a lot of navigating through the pack as I neared the finish, many of us had the same experience. I enjoyed finishing earlier (not faster) to be able to greet TPW walkers at the finish. The best was seeing a group of walkers with great technique and strong finish heading to the finish line, only to recognize Lee, Sue and Ann Louise. Great job ladies!

Thanks to Sue C. for organizing the post race bunch at the Foggy Dew. I understand that the conversation centered on how much everyone enjoyed the race. Sharing ideas and plans for future races.

For me the weekend was about our TPW community:

•  Conversation with our newest walker Patricia.
•  Arriving at the race with my 8 year walking friend Shirley to do yet another race.
•  Seeing Susan cheering on the sidelines knowing I will be in Ottawa with her in two weeks to do the marathon.
• Being at the finish to see TPW walkers finish strong, upright and smiling.
•  Phyllis taking the time to take my photo at the finish

A community I am in awe of and grateful for.
