Toronto Power Walkers had another busy weekend with training walks, hiking, racing and volunteering.
Training first, a small group of approx 6 walkers were out in High Park Saturday morning walking the distance. Linda was hiking 17k on a hilly, rocky route through Scottsdale Farm, Hole in the wall and Limestone. Those locations sound more like the American west that Southern Ontario. I am sure Linda will be happy to share her experience .. just ask.
A group of us, (Sue, Lorna and Ela) volunteered for another year at the annual Kidsfest 5k event. It is inspiring to see the children and families at this event knowing they trained all year to run the 5K .Check out the organization's website to learn more.
Sunday, was more volunteering, this time at the Toronto Women’s Half Marathon. Rorie and Phyllis volunteered at the Pottery Rd water station. Barbara was with the ‘Men from Rosedale’, David and Katherine volunteered as well.
Congratulations to TPW'ers who completed another half marathon!! We were well represented at the race, Ela, Lorna, Sue, Diane, Sherry, Lee, Rosemarie, Fiona, Deborah and Susan E. did the race, some for the second year in a row.
If you haven't been active with TPW in the past few months...now is the time to change that .We want to see your smiling face. Don't worry about the distances, just come out , we would love to see you
We will be training 3 times a week as a group and also will begin to train for fall races. A number of us are registered for the Kitchener Waterloo Walkers Classic Half Marathon on Sept 26. It is a walker only competitive race. .
Others are registered for the Toronto Marathon October 17th . Phyllis is doing the New York City Marathon on November 7th. I know we will all be looking closely at our TV screens hoping for a glimpse of her on November 7th.
So now is the time to start thinking about your training goals for the fall. Join us Thursday at 6:30 at the North Toronto Community Centre for our training walk. Saturday we start at 7am for the summer training season!!!!
