The Shore Things Walking Club and TPW Walk the Distance

The Shore Things Walking Club and the Toronto Power Walkers gathered at High Park, a combined total of 27. All of us possessed individual goals of walking the distance and not freezing into some type of ice sculpture along the route. I am glad to report that there were no new ice sculptures found in High Park. Thank you Helen for taking the lead and setting it up. I hope that we get to experience this again. While Sherry is volunteering at the Olympics, Klara returned from Japan and told very interesting stories during breakfast.

I also heard at breakfast that some members have been walking the downtown PATH (indoor walkways through downtown office towers and shopping areas). Two loops around this indoor mall equals 10K. Contact Fiona for more information.

From the conversations I had during the walk and during breakfast WOW and Barb Gormley continue to be active in helping our members with walking techniques. A few of use are still going to the gym, attending yoga classes (periodically) and swimming. For those of you who are new, Helen is our Training Lead. Though not a training coach, she possesses a wealth of contact/organizational information regarding the subject of training/events and you can find the information in the Training part of the Google Group page and this blog (right hand side).

Sue asks that you indicate (using the link noted on the right side of this blog) whether or not you are attending the March 2nd gathering at the Harbord House . You can register there ($50.00) for the next year and give the money or cheque to Carol (cheque payable to her). At the quarterly gathering at Harbord House we will hear about the benefits of membership, exchange of stories and of hear the business side of TPWs.

The Quiltathon is being held of the 21st of Feb. 2010. I did not see Rorie at the gathering on Saturday but communicate with her as to whether or not you are going. Cost is $50.00 for material. It is great fun for a great cause.

As for myself (Susan B) I am away next week then I am starting my 4 Saturdays straight of race walking training. Contact me or Helen and let us know whether you are interested in attending a race walking clinic. It will be just for the TPWs and with the exception of the price of gas, a free clinic. I will be asking Stafford (the race walking coach) if he is available during the first Saturday of April or May 2010. Since he has offered to provide the clinic for the price of filling his gas tank, I figure that I will let him decide which Saturday.

A big thank you to The Shore Things Walking Club for walking the distance with us. Looking forward to doing it again. For more information on The Shore Things Walking Club scroll down to near the bottom of our blog and click on the link there.

The more the better I say. I love to hear the stories and the ‘goings on’ of those of us who walk the distance. Nothing like walking the distance and being fully informed.
